A new high-speed train has been launched in France by engineering giant Alstom.
The AGV (Automotrice Grande Vitesse) can travel at up to 360kph (224mph), and has engines under each carriage. It can carry more passengers because of the lack of locomotives at either end. The new trains are able to cover 1,000km (600 miles) in just three hours. The AGV's engines are more energy-efficient than their predecessor.
The company has likened its new product to the Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger plane, because of its importance and innovation.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy praised Alstom's research and development during the launch at the rail test centre in La Rochelle.
